There aren’t many places that I want to return to, but Norway is definitely somewhere I’d like to explore more of. We flew into Oslo and took the NSB (regular) train into the city, in order to catch the metro to our hotel in Holmenkollen (Scandic Holmenkollen Park). It is a beautiful and historic hotel, with a lovely view of the Oslo fjords. They serve a rather decadent and plentiful breakfast buffet, which is ideal when visiting a country as expensive as Norway! We were also provided with a packed breakfast one morning, due to our incredibly early start for the Norway In A Nutshell tour (see more about the here).
Back in Oslo, we visited Holmenkollen Ski Museum and the Ski Jump Tower, which offers a very impressive view of Oslo.
Whilst wandering around the city, we were struck by how modern, clean and attractive it is. Particularly Aker Brugge wharf, by the harbour, with its restaurants and large open spaces.
We also visited the Viking Ship Museum, which has a collection of ancient ships that have sailed the sea, with The Oseberg Ship built in Western Norway around AD 820!
