A Venetian Gondola Ride ~ Italy

You are gondola kick yourself if you miss out on this bucket list experience whilst in Venice! One of the most iconic and romantic images in the world, a Venice lagoon gondola ride is usually top of a traveller’s list.

Gondoliers own and maintain their own boats, and the crafts and careers are often passed down from father to son for generation.  Many are ornately decorated and have comfortable seats and blankets. Fares are standard and set officially by the city of Venice. At present, the rates is €80 for a 40 minute daytime ride.

We caught ours by the Rialto Bridge, where there were plenty available. The location made for a beautiful ride, along the Grand Canal and the smaller waterways, where some are only wide enough for gondolas.
