Christmas: Mince Pies

In October I decided that it would be a great idea to go all out in terms of a homemade Christmas. I’d finally be able to put that Kilner jam making kit that I received last year to good use by making hampers for family.

After over six hours in the kitchen one November afternoon making Mary Berry’s Christmas Chutney, the first of many chutneys to be made, I started to wonder what on earth I’d been thinking the month before! But having sampled a bit left over in the pan, I considered that it had probably been worth all the man hours as it tasted delicious.

Homemade mincemeat, for the first time ever, was also on the list. The kitchen smelt wonderful with Christmas spices, brandy and rum!

And today was the day for some mince pie making.

Normal blogging will resume shortly (when I’m done with the preserves and I’m back to the photography), with a couple of gorgeous weddings, but for now I’m going to tuck into a well deserved mince pie! Merry Christmas!
